Dear Rotarians & Friends,
Tuesday 29 November 2016 was a guest speaker’s night and many attendees were also participating. We welcomed Leah and Greg Gibbs who joined us. Apologies from Alvan Freeman, Jock Cimino, Joe Cimino, Alan Hall and Jim Rudling. We completed our Annual Health Check for the Club at the end of the meeting and I will be lodging it shortly. The President Elect training session will be held in February 2017.
I encourage all members to attend the District Conference on 10-12 March 2017, it will be held in Wollongong and a special rate of registration will be applied before 31 December 2016. I also talked with our special guests (brought by Geoff Gibbs) about joining our club if they are interested in helping others.
Members should promote the club by bringing a guest or guests along to the weekly meeting.
Youth Service: Thanks to Gary for helping out with organising and delivering school service Awards to the schools and Thanks to Joe Cauchi for organising the student’s certificates in the South West Sydney schools before their presentation days. Students will receive the certificate and pen and a book will be kept in the library from the Rotary Club of Liverpool West.
Treasurer: Gary Halliday collected the money for our Xmas Party on Tuesday 13th December 2016 at 1/170 George Street, Liverpool. He also expected more people coming to join our party on the night.
Vocational Service: Dr, Bob Groat advised that he has sent the application forms to the teachers at the Miller TAFE to nominate students to receive our annual award. He is waiting for the reply of nominated recipients from this institute to receive the awards in May 2017.
International Service Jim Leahy advised that all projects were done well overseas. In Nepal our teams visited some projects organised by multi organisations and our team were also recognised and welcome from the local Nepal Government. Jim is also going to introduce one of the guest whom is interested in joining as a new member in our club. Jim Rudling is still in Cambodia and he will inform us more details of his trip when he is back.
Program Officer: Sam Capra advised that around 30 people are going to attend the Xmas party on Tuesday, 13th December 2016 at The Black Rose Café, 1/170 George St, Liverpool.
Guest Speaker: Maggie Parrish from Food 4 Everyone talked about their projects in relation to growing vegetables in the poor villages, purchasing books, school uniforms and this year they will be celebrating “Xmas in Nepal”. This project has been operating for 3 years to assist an orphanage/refuge home by providing them some food. Maggie also mentioned that she took children from the centre to on an excursion while she was in the Nepal earlier in the year and that she was going the Nepal the following day. She thanked to the Rotary Club of Liverpool West for contributing the money to help the people in need. Maggie and Tina Doh helped us at our Breakfast BBQ at Chipping Norton on 26 November.
International Service Director Jim Leahy presented a cheque from the Club to support the work of the Group.
Food 4 Everyone is an informal group of friends who get together to raise funds to support their project by holding dinners etc. All money raised is used in the project and like our Club the members pay their own expenses such as airfares and accommodation.
Remember! Our rotary club offers great opportunities for new friendships and personal development.
Raffle: We raised $135. Thanks to everyone for their participation and your kind contribution of Raffle Prizes.

Club Christmas Dinner – Tuesday 13 December 2016
The dinner will be held on Tuesday, 13th December 2016 at The Black Rose Café, 1/170 George St, Liverpool. Members are encouraged to attend with their partners and bring friends along as well. We be start collecting the cost of the dinner – $25 per head for Club Members and one guest/partner/spouse, $65 for additional guests. There will be a sumptuous meal, soft drink, 6 bottles of beer, 6 bottles of light beer and a bottle of red and white wine on each table. Once this has been consumed a cash bar will be operated.
Combined Xmas Dinner with Satellite Club – Saturday 17 December 2016 @7:00 pm Function Room, Bach Dang Restaurant, 42 Canley Vale Road, Canley Vale. Cost $50 per person. If you have not already committed please contact Ted Mlynarz.
Christmas Fruitcake Recipe
1 Cup Water
1 Cup Sugar
4 Large eggs
3 Cup dried fruit
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 Cup Brown sugar
Lemon juice, nuts
1 FULL bottle of your favourite whiskey
Sample the whiskey to check for quality.
Take out a large bowl.
Check the whiskey again to be sure that it is of the highest quality.
Pour 1 level cup and drink. Repeat.
Turn on the electric mixer; beat 1 Cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl.
Add 1 tsp. sugar and beat again.
Make sure the whiskey is still OK.
Cry another cup. Turn off the mixer.
Break two geggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit.
Mix on the burner.
If the fried fruit gets stuck in the beaters,
pry it loose with a screwdriver.
Sample the whiskey to check for toxisisticity.
Next, sift 2 cups of salt.
Or something. Who cares? Check the whiskey.
Now sift the lemon juice and strain your nuts.
Add one tablespoon of sugar or something…whatever you can find.
Grease the oven. Turn on the cake tin to 350 degrees.
Don’t forget to beat off the turner. Throw the bowl out of the window.
Check the whiskey again. Go to bed.
Who likes fruit cake anyway???
