OUR NEXT MEETING IS ON TUESDAY, 10 OCTOBER 2017 AT LIVERPOOL CATHOLIC CLUB – 6 FOR 6:30 PM. OUR GUEST SPEAKER WILL BE ROSE TA FROM MAPLE GROVE RETIREMENT LIVING.
We were back at our home base at Liverpool Catholic Club for last Tuesday’s Meeting – Apologies were received from Peter Beadle, Geoff Gibbs, Rinna Ly, Shiva Nandan and Alvan Freeman (who is heading to Beersheba to re-enact that famous charge by the 4th Australian Light Horse 100 years ago).
We had a visit from Malcolm Brown – Rotary Australia World Community Services who has just stepped into this role for District 9675. Malcolm advised that our Club is second in the District behind Sydney with three active RAWCS Projects in place and that he had been in contact with leaders of these projects namely AHHA (Vietnam Vision), Cambodia Vision and Australian Aid for Cambodia. It was good to have a representative of RAWCS at our Club Meeting.
Our Guest speaker was Gemma Cameron from the St Vincent de Paul Society who gave us an insight in the work of the society in Australia and its foundation by Frederic Ozanam in France in 1833. She also spoke on the work of the St Vincent de Paul Night Patrol in the Liverpool area where a dedicated group of volunteers provide meals, comfort and assistance to the homeless and needy of the Liverpool area – this is a group our Club has supported for many years and hopefully will be able to do so into the future.
We unfortunately accepted the resignation of Past President Jock Cimino who after more than 30 years of active contribution to our Club is unable to continue because of growing family demands on his time and those of his business. We wish Jock, Rosa and his family well in the future and at a Board Meeting held after the Club meeting it was resolved that Jock should become an Honary Member of the Club.
Frans Buskermolen donated some exotic “tubers” to be included as prizes in our weekly raffle and also some potted Clivia to be auctioned – for the unfamiliar Clivias are wonderful, almost unkillable plants, which brighten the garden during late winter and early spring with clusters of vibrant yellow throated, orange or salmon trumpet flowers. The flowers are held on stalks above the clump of dark green strap-like leaves.
Native to Natal, South Africa, clivias were named after Lady Charlotte Florentina Clive, Duchess of Northumberland, who was the granddaughter of Robert Clive, better known as Clive of India.
Members Raffle Jackpot will be $40.00 on 10 October 2017

Pride of Workmanship Awards
Each year the club calls for nominations from the community of people who give that little extra in the performance of their jobs, it may be that little bit of extra help to customers, it might be for pride in their jobs.
This year the presentation night will be on Tuesday 28th November 2017. Nominations can be made on the form available from Vocational Service Director Joe Cauchi and must be made no later than 14th November 2017.
Each nominee will receive an engraved plaque, dinner for them and a partner. If you nominate someone for this award you must be in a position to attend the function on the night when the award is presented. This award can be a great way to show appreciation to an employee or co-worker.
INSPIRATIONAL YOUTH AWARDS
Helping Youth to Achieve
Many young people have the talent to make the world a better place, but not all have the opportunity.
In 2017-18 we ask the clubs to nominate an individual from their area, or young people they become aware of who exhibit the spark to make a difference but are held back by their circumstances. Some youth do not have the opportunity to shine because they do not have the privileges that others have so we ask Clubs to identify those individuals.
The criteria for the awards are:
- Age categories; 14 – 16 years & 17 – 19 years
- Applicants from; Community Groups, Youth Groups & all Educational Organisations
- Their Socio- economic situation
- Contribution to communities
- Their ability to “make the world a better place”
- Commitment and enthusiasm to a cause
Nominee applications will close 16th March 2018 – www.rotarydistrict9675.org
