Macquarie Hotel,  269 Macquarie Street, Liverpool

Meet for Bistro Dinner from 6 pm. – Meeting will commence at 7 pm.

Parking is available in the Northumberland Multi Story Carpark and you can walk through to the Hotel.

We had a good night at the Crossroads Hotel last week with a Club Forum followed by a Board meeting. Leave of absence for the next 12 months was approved for Robert Menolotto (Robert & Anita as expecting an addition to their family) and Peter Beadle (Peter & Margaret are heading off on a trek around Australia). PP Jim Rudling was appointed to President Elect for 2018/9 following the resignation of Lawrence Hay – Jim will be looking to fill his Board and will let us know who they will be in the near future.

Our last BBQ at Chipping Norton was held on 24 February with a lot of our regular customers expressed disappointed to see us go  – unfortunately as the market has continued to decline so have our takings. This can be attributed to the move from Warwick Farm Racecourse to an obscure location at Chipping Norton, failure by the Market Organisers to advertise and promote the markets resulting in a number of stall holders pulling out or coming infrequently. We have hung up our Aprons while we look for a new venture.

Our contingent will have returned from the District Conference in Mudgee and we expect to hear numerous “Epic War Stories”.

March Birthdays: 4th – Russell Soedjadi, 6th – Sue Leahy, 10th – William Trinh & 11th – Grazia Bunter.

March Anniversaries: 1st – Doris & John Gibbs and 4th – Ros. & Alvan Freeman

Members Raffle Jackpot will be $10.00 when we resume scheduled meetings.

Malaria is still endemic in 104 countries, claiming the life of one child every two minutes. Yet malaria is entirely treatable and preventable with targeted help.

In 2015 Bill Gates and Ray Chambers, the United Nations Secretary General’s special envoy for malaria, put forward a plan for eradicating the disease by 2040. Rotarians Against Malaria (RAM) started this mission in our Pacific region more than 20 years ago. With RAM’s help the rate of malaria has dropped from 70% of the population to less than 1% in parts of the Solomons, and Timor Leste is on track to eliminate malaria by 2020.

Join with us to build awareness and help rid our region of Malaria by 2025 on World Malaria Day, 30 April

RAM engages in many activities to help control and eventually eliminate malaria, including:

  • Breeding ground destruction
  • Distribution of long-lasting treated bed nets and surface insecticides
  • Provision of diagnostic equipment
  • Research

For more information on Rotary’s work in the fight against malaria, Awareness Day activities, RAM contacts near you and other resources, visit the RAM website.
