Meeting 10 September 2019
There were quite a number of apologies for Tuesday’s meeting – Gary Halliday, Ted Mlynarz, Charlie Hili, Bob Groat, Frans Buskermolen, John Pillay and Joe Cauchi.
Nonetheless it was a lively meeting.
President Sam reported that the Police Officer of the Year function was well attended and run function.
During the week Sam had met with Amah Singh from Turbans 4 Australia to discuss the problems of not yet having sufficient funds to be able to purchase and fit out the van for preparing and serving meals for local homeless people.
Jim Rudling proposed that as Rob Elliott was to be the next week’s Guest Speaker, he be presented with the Clubs Donation to Camp Quality rather than make the donation at the Changeover. This was accepted by the meeting.
Jim has sent out invitations for the special dinner on 11 October to farewell Natalia and acknowledge the doctors and hospital staff who looked after her for their sterling work. As a consequence, it was determined that this function substitute for the regular meeting that would have been held on 11 October. It was also proposed by Jim and approved by the meeting that the usual donation to Rotary Health be brought forward so as to be able to obtain and then present the Gold Companion Award to Liverpool Hospital in recognition of their contribution and assistance with the Natalia Project.
A guest of the Club in attendance at the meeting was Nitish Chandra, the president of the Suva North Rotary Club. Nitish expressed his sincere thanks to the Club for the Fiji Water Project which the Suva North Club has been facilitating. Phase 1 of the project has been completed successfully and Phase 2 has commenced.
