It was a lively meeting on Tuesday chaired by PP John Pillay who substituted for President Jim Rudling who is nursing a broken elbow. Apologies were also received from Sam Capra. John introduced visitor Tara Sharma.
Frans Buskermolen has met with the Corrimal Clubs group involved in Farmers Aid to the town of Lake Cargelligo. The group has been visiting the town for ten years and were helpful with their advice for this Club’s visit. Frans and Joe Cauchi will be meeting with Lake Cargelligo Rotary Club on 14 February to discuss and plan our Aid. Treasurer Gary Halliday proposed a budget of up $10,000 for the Farmers Aid project at Lake Cargelligo, this was approved by the Club Members in attendance. The Satellite Club is contributing $2,000 bringing the total up to $12,000.
PP John Pillay advised that the quotes have been received for the materials to set up a septic sanitation system at Waidrada Village (Just east of Suva). Six units containing a shower and toilet will be built and connected. The labour is to be provided in the main by the villagers. John and Sam Capra will travel to Fiji at the end of February to oversee the project. The Club approved the total project cost of approximately $4,500.
Vocational Director Shiva Nandan circulated a commitment sheet for the vocational visit to the Ingham institute on 12 March.
Geoff Gibbs introduced Grace Fava from the Autism Advice and Support Service. The service will be the beneficiary of funds raised on the Club’s Golf Day to be held on Friday 17 May
Grace described the Service as a not for profit charity run for children and adults with Autism and their families.
The Service provides a range of services to support, advocate, help, educate and guide families who have a family member with Autism as well as the greater community in New South Wales and Nationally also.
Grace commenced the organisation after searching for services for her two boys who both regressed with Autism and Global Developmental Delay and found nothing was available.
Ted Mlynarz, Bob Groat, Charlie Hili and Joe Cauchi will be leaving on a mission to Cambodia and Vietnam on 3 March with AHHA. Ted was delighted with the generosity of the Sydney Vietnamese community which has increased the budget for this trip by 50%.
Ted reminded members of the Satellite Club’s BBQ at Freedom Plaza on Sunday 24 February and the Australian Health and Humanity aid fundraiser dinner to be held at the Crystal Palace on Friday 3 May.
International Service Director Rinna Ly advised that Australian Aid 4 Cambodia has 5 dates this year when it will be fund raising in Freedom Plaza ( these are listed later in the Newsletter ) if you are able to assist on any of the days it would be appreciated.
