MEETING 29 JANUARY 2024

We had a good role up for our first meeting of 2024 at Mounties.

President Tissa Perera reported that he has received a donation of High School Maths Text books from a local high school and has sorted out the good quality ones. He will be sending some to schools in Sri Lanka, John Pillay will send some to Fiji. Any other members wanting to distribute them should contact Tissa.

New Member Night - because of the number of members travelling this has now been moved to 30th April 2024.

Let’s face it - attracting members to join a service organization is not an easy task. In fact, oftentimes, we see that even though the majority of people are aware of Rotary, only a few know what Rotarians actually do.

The prospective members that we try and recruit are often our friends, colleagues or family members.

These are people that are easy to recruit because you share a personal relationship with them and can easily explain the work of Rotarians to them.

Invite members of your local community, friends and business contacts to this membership night!

We will have a speaker and  some materials ready to give out at this event that consist of information about your club, activities and Rotary. This way, prospective members have something conclusive to take away and read. Invite all prospective members at the membership night to attend so they can get a feel of what the dynamic of the club is like.

Those who are really interested will attend and you'll have an opportunity to formally invite them to join the club.

IF WE WANT TO GROW THE CLUB, IT IS UP TO EVERY MEMBER TO PROMOTE THE CLUB AND THIS NIGHT!

Community Service Director John Pillay advised that our next Feed the Homeless Night in Martin Place, will be held on 12 February 2024 at 6pm.

FLYPINK Fund Raising Dinner - John reported that the proceeds of the event will now go exclusively to Breast Cancer Research and that ticket costs and sponsorship package details will be available shortly.
Now is the time to start approaching possible sponsors.

PP Jim Rudling advised that the Police Officer of the Year Dinner 2024 has been moved to the Warwick, 355 Hume Highway, Warwick Farm.

International Service Director Ted Mlynarz reported on the recent Women's Health Trip, he travelled with a team of Doctors, Nurses and Clinicians  Chunk Tru Village and Kampong Luong Floating Village in Cambodia from 11 to 16 January 2024.

The team conducted 470 medical examinations, including pap smears, the results of which were provided by the pathologists in the team virtually immediately. The appropriate medicine were also distributed.

70 young girls were given the HPV vaccine to reduce the chance of Cervical Cancer.

The people in these villages are of Vietnamese Heritage and are staleless as they are not acknowledged by either the Vietnam or Cambodia even though many of them were born in Cambodia.
