President's Message
Meeting 31 July: Apologies were received from Rinna Ly, John Pillay, Shiva Nandan and Sam Capra at last week’s meeting.

President Jim Rudling finally assumed the Chair after a post inauguration holiday in Cambodia. Jim reported on the progress of the project to bring a young woman from Papua in Indonesia to Australia for surgery to correct her facial deformities. The surgeon at Liverpool has offered to perform the operations free of charge and the Liverpool Hospital will also be providing assistance. Jim has offered to assist her with accommodation. We are trying to locate any Papuan’s who might have migrated to Australia to make them aware of what we are doing.

Preparations for the Miracle Babies Fund Raising Night are building up with Geoff Gibbs and Bob Groat offering to meet the costs hiring the entertainer for the night and Dr Hein Tran donating an oil painting and some whiskey as prizes for the night. Members a reminded to make every effort to sell theit allocated tickets for the night and continue to seek sponsorships.

Treasurer Gary Halliday advised that only a few members are still to pay their annual membership fees.

Annual Circus – Gary advised that we are unable to use Stardust Circus and the Grounds of Liverpool Catholic Club for this event in 2019. We have commenced negotiations with Ashtons Entertainment with a view to staging the event in the grounds of Bonnyrigg Sports Club on Elizabeth Drive in early May 2019. There is also the possibility that our Club might be doing the catering (sausage sizzle, drinks, crisps etc) – this will involve a big effort from members but should see the Club raise significant funds.

Our Guest speaker on 7 August will be Rob Elliott who will speak on the annual Camp Quality ”escarpade”. We look forward to catching up with Rob again.

As members are aware nearly 100% of NSW is in the grip of a severe drought – RAWCS in conjunction with Channel 9 and the National Farmer's Federation have launched an appeal, As a Club we need to discuss whether we will support this appeal or look to other ways to provide support.
