7 APRIL 2020

Meeting 7 April 2000 – We held our first “ZOOM” video conference meeting which was well attended. It was great to get together as a Club after the enforced break and cancellation of so many things. The conference was organised by PP Peter Beadle who provided all members with comprehensive instructions on how set up ZOOM, if they had not already used it, and how to join the meeting. Members came well equipped with wine and snacks and a good sense of comradery.

President Sam reported opened the meeting outlining actions that the Board had taken over the last few weeks including the purchase of a ShelterBox for Syria, the distribution of Easter Eggs to the homeless of Liverpool and surrounding areas and the arrangement put in place to purchase 1000 bottles of hand sanitiser. When the hand sanitiser arrives from China towards the end of April in will be distributed to St Vincent de Paul Night Patrol, Turbans 4 Australia and other groups looking after the homeless in our Community. Our order is part of a larger order placed by AHHA for sanitiser, masks and other personal protective supplies and which is destined for Westmead and Liverpool Hospitals.

Treasurer Gary Halliday reported that the current receipts from the Clubs telemarketing appeal for the Annual Circus had fallen right away and that the staging of the 2020 Circus, postponed to August 2020 may be further delayed into 2021. Discussions are being held with both Projects for Children (telemarketer) and Brophy’s Circus and the Club will be provided with updates when available.

He also advised that he had been in contact with William Benson, Chair of the WIRES Wollondilly Branch to finalise the donation to them which will be used to assist with the replacement of a pre-release pen for macropods destroyed in the recent bushfires. The pen which was constructed for them a few years ago cost $15,000, but the one being planned will be around half the size and they plan to utilise their members professional skills to do preparatory work. Also being investigated is a design for a portable wombat release enclosure, which allows the animal to be 'soft-released' into an area so that it can explore its new landscape while still returning to a secure area to rest, be monitored and be supplementary fed if necessary. Once the projects are complete William or a representative will make a presentation to a future Club Meeting. The donated funds were raised at the Tet Festival earlier in the year in conjunction with the Truc Lam Zen Centre.

Youth Service Director Tissa Perera advised that the iPadPro purchased for a visually impaired student at Liverpool Girls High School has arrived and will be delivered to the student’s teacher on 8 April 2020.

The meeting discussed funding of our many projects still on foot for 2020 and agreed that these will be reassessed as things progress and that the focus should be on local and Australian projects and the possibility that ShelterBox may need more support as the result of the recent cyclone in the Pacific.
It was agreed that the next meeting (by Zoom) would be held on 21 April 2020 and that our two newest members would be inducted at Meeting and that it would also be the Special General Meeting to adopt the new constitution.
