President Tissa Perera opened the meeting and welcomed visiting Rotarian Percy Vij,
Tissa gave a short update on the District Conference that he and other members attended:
The Koala we decorated did not come in the top 4 and it will be auctioned at the next club meeting, with funds going to o to club revenue.
There were a number of very interesting speakers covering different topics from Domestic Violence Awareness, to building skin using 3D printers and gliding from Mt Everest to raise funds for Polio.
The Ballina club grew from 15 members to 82 members by focusing working on community projects in the Ballina area and local businesses and community engagement.
Club's at the Conference pledged to fund the shortfall of money required to purchase of the GE Micro Probe for the Liverpool Hospital.
The Club was approached to participate in a inter-generational project and they have been asked to come to our club and explain what is involved and costs would be incurred.
A number of our members set sail to invade Japan and are pictured leaving Sydney.
Treasurer Sam Capra advised that the District is having a fund raiser and he had reserved a table at $185 per head. Normal cost was $195 per head. Club members did not see why the district was raising funds and thought that it could impact on club fundraising activities. The funds raised by the district may not be equally shared with clubs for club projects. Sam to provide further information.
Community Service Director John Pillay reported on the Feed the Homeless event held in Martin Place on Monday 11th March and thanked those members who helped out. We provided hot meals, clothing etc to the City's homeless.
Club Service Director Greg Gibbs reported on the Police Officer of the Year Committee meeting held last week, advising that Liverpool Club no longer wish to participate in this event and as such nominations will be judged by two members of our Club (John Pillay and Alvan Freeman).
New Member Night - because of the number of members traveling this has now been moved to 30th April 2024.
Let’s face it - attracting members to join a service organization is not an easy task. In fact, oftentimes, we see that even though the majority of people are aware of Rotary, only a few know what Rotarians actually do.
The prospective members that we try and recruit are often our friends, colleagues or family members.
These are people that are easy to recruit because you share a personal relationship with them and can easily explain the work of Rotarians to them.
Invite members of your local community, friends and business contacts to this membership night!
We will have a speaker and some materials ready to give out at this event that consist of information about your club, activities and Rotary. This way, prospective members have something conclusive to take away and read. Invite all prospective members at the membership night to attend so they can get a feel of what the dynamic of the club is like.
Those who are really interested will attend and you'll have an opportunity to formally invite them to join the club.
IF WE WANT TO GROW THE CLUB, IT IS UP TO EVERY MEMBER TO PROMOTE THE CLUB AND THIS NIGHT!
Community Service Director John Pillay advised that our next Feed the Homeless Night in Martin Place, will be held on 8 April 2024 at 6 for 6:30pm.
