Meeting 13th August 2019
Apologies: Shiva Nandan, Bob Groat, John Pillay,
President Sam reported that he has attended the most recent Police Officer of The Year Committee meeting. There are to be five categories of awards. Our club will be donating a $500 Bing Lee Gift Voucher, which is being sourced by PP Jim Rudling. President Sam has also donated a prize for the night, as has PP Frans Buskermolen. Secretary Charles distributed a commitment sheet for Police Officer of the Year Night to be held on Tuesday 3 September at Liverpool Catholic Club, tickets are $75.00 per person and are available from Sam Capra.
Our club will be receiving an invitation from Liverpool Greenway to their gala night called ‘A Night at the Oscars’. This event to be on the 26th October.
Sam is also planning our club’s gala event, which will be in aid of Father O’Reilly’s Youth off The Streets programme. This event will most probably be in March of next year.
A letter from The Hon. Chris Hayes, Federal Member for Fowler was tabled. It outlines a dollar for dollar federal grant for approved community projects in the seat of Fowler. This was handed to President Sam, as this grant if approved, will be of benefit in his Youth off the Streets Project.
The issue of the BBQ Trailer’s future was also brought to a conclusion, as was the town we will collaborate with for drought relief. The club members overwhelmingly decided to sell off the BBQ and to collaborate with the Rotary Club of Oberon for drought relief. PP Frans will now begin discussions with the president of Oberon Rotary Club to gauge how we can be of assistance.
Secretary Charles also reported that our club would continue to invite organisations we regularly support to attend our Changeover Dinner to receive this support. During the year a person from each group will be invited to attend a Club meeting to provide an update on their work.
Treasurer Gary reported that 66.6% of members had paid their annual dues. He also reported that it is likely that the Circus telemarketing will generate sufficient to support our drought relief and other projects.
Youth Service Director Tissa reported that he had visited Cecil Hills High School regarding the Junior Focus Awards. Our club will be sponsoring four students at $100 each. The money can go towards uniforms or school fees. Our club will also receive endorsement in their school bulletin. He also reported that the RYLA camp is well in hand and being followed up.
Ted Mlynarz reported that a glance of our club’s schedule of upcoming events shows that we have a number of interesting guest speakers over the next few weeks. PP Jim Rudling also reported that Natalia was spending a few days in Bendigo with the Bendigo-Strathdale Rotary club, which is our partner club in The Natalia project. Natalia and friends also visited the Blue Mountains and had their first experience with snow.
Our guest speaker was PP Peter Beadle who gave a slide presentation on his recent trip to The Antarctic with his wife Margaret.
