Meeting 16 February

We had apologies from Alvan Freeman, Jim Rudling, Shiva Nandan, John Pillay, and potential Member Pranesh Ram. We welcomed Les Stiil to our meeting.

Our Guest Speaker was William Benson, former Chair of WIRES Wollondilly Branch. William spoke on how his Group had used the funds donated to them following the 2020 Bushfires - construction of a soft release enclosure for Macropods and a Portable Soft Release Pen for Wombats. The following has been extracted from his presentation and the photos provided by WIRES Wollondilly

Macropod pre-release enclosure
The kangaroo enclosure is so big now and the wallaroos that are currently in residence there are so happy and fit and healthy. It is so great to see them hopping madly around the enclosure chasing each other at full speed, leaping over each other and dodging between the trees so that they cannot get caught by the others. They love sitting under the big gum tree especially during the middle of the day when it tends to be the hottest. You will find them sleeping soundly or rolling around scratching themselves.

Wombat soft-release pen

Thanks to the generous donation we have so far had 3 lovely healthy grown-up wombats released successfully who are now enjoying the life they were meant to have all along. We have our next lot due to be released in the next few weeks which is so exciting as they will love their temporary accommodation until their full release.

The soft-release wombat enclosure is amazingly easy to assemble. All you need is a standard trailer and a hammer and drill and 2 people to put it all together.

Members asked William a number of questions and  Secretary Ted Mlynarz moved a vote of thanks and made a small presentation to him.

Club Service Director Peter Beadle advised that he has organised a "Barefoot Bowling Event" for Members, Partners and Guests fat Cabramatta Bowling Club on Saturday 20 March 2021 - Bowling Commences at 4:30 pm and will be followed by a sumptuous BBQ at 6:30 pm, The cost will be $45 per person. Current indications are that we will have over 20 people in attendance, Peter will require final numbers closer to the date.

One of our newer Members felt left out because it was not acknowledged that he worked at the Bunnings BBQ on 7th February 2021 - maybe if he wore a Club shirt on the day he would have been more recognisable.
