5 MAY 2020

Special General Meeting 21 April 2020 – We had a good attendance for this meeting.
President Sam opened the meeting and those in attendance voted to adopt the New Constitution, Bylaws and Procedures for Awarding and presenting Paul Harris Fellow Awards.

We then moved on to the induction of two new members into our Club. President Sam formally inducted Sonny Hoang and John Cauchi as Members – they had both received their Membership Certificates, Rotary Pins and New Member Kits by post before the meeting. The members in attendance welcomed them by acclamation.

Once the formal part of the meeting was over, we moved to General Business:

ShelterBox Australia Vanuatu Appeal for Shelter Kits
On April 6th Cyclone Harold made landfall in Vanuatu as a Category 5 cyclone, bringing devastation to the northern provinces. The provinces of Sanma, Malampa, Torba and Penama are most affected. It is estimated that up to 90% of buildings and houses in Sanma are either damaged or destroyed. Communications are still down in many areas and, coupled with the remote nature of many communities, the full extent of the damage or casualties is still unclear. 160,000 people are thought to be affected.
Vanuatu is mercifully COVID-19-free and the government would like to keep it that way.
There is a shortage of emergency shelter items in Vanuatu and in-country partners are turning to ShelterBox partners for assistance.
Although the COVID-19 pandemic is restricting direct SRT access, ShelterBox has identified a potential partner in CARE Vanuatu
Based on the needs assessment, they are looking at providing Shelter Kits (tarps, tools and fixings) plus additional IFRC spec tarps and rope; solar lights. The caseload would be 3000 households.
Members resolved to donate $1,200 to ShelterBox Australia to fund 10 Shelter Kits.

Hand Sanitiser
We expect to receive the 1000 bottles we have ordered shortly and will arrange distribution to the charities operating in our area that we have identified.

Rain Ware (ponchos)
We are distributing 70 of these ponchos which were donated to the Club by Truc Lam Zen Centre to Groups that are in contact with homeless people in our area.

The next Club Board of Directors Meeting (both the 2019/20 and 2020/21 Boards) will be scheduled for around the end of May 2020, hopefully at Mounties but if not, we will set up a ZOOM Conference.

Annual Circus has now been rescheduled to be held in May 2021, we still plan to hold it in the Grounds of the Bonnyrigg Sports Club - discussions are being held with Projects for Children (telemarketer), Brophy’s Circus, Fairfield Council and the Club. Updates when available.

Accommodation is not available in the Cabins that we have stayed in the past but there are other Caravan Parks and Motels but we will need to have an indication of our requirements very soon, to this end PP Ted Mlynarz will be sending a commitment sheet around to Members.

Our Members only raffle jackpot will be $90
When next we meet, the wine we offer for prizes is aging gracefully and our supply of exciting chocolates and mystery prizes are just waiting to be won.
