President John Pillay opened the meeting and welcomed guests Alexandar Bojanic and Sofia Knezevic and Phillip Kaye from William Carey School.

We had apologies from Shiva Nandan, Lakhena Rudling, Greg Gibbs, Peter Beadle and Sam Capra.

President John acknowledged the support he had received during his term which finishes of 30 June 2025 and reminded members that our next Feed the Homeless Event will be in Martin Place on 7 July 2025 - 6 for 6:30 pm.

Secretary Jim Rudling advised that the Club had received a request from a local student for support to attend the National Youth Science Forum in Canberra. He was advised that if his application was successful our Club would meet 50% of the cost and he would also be expected to attend Club meetings and help out on a Bunnings Sausage Sizzle.

International Service Director Ted Mlynarz advised that the AHHA Fund Raising scheduled for 29 June has been cancelled.

Immediate Past President Tissa Perera reported on the establishment of an Interact Club at James Busby High School. He had attended the school for the 3rd meeting of the foundation group and advised that they have at least 16 potential members and are discussing projects and hope to apply for registration shortly. It looks like their first project will be provision of Welcome Kits for new students in 2026.

President John introduced Phillip Kaye from William Carey School who gave an update on the team from the School we are sponsoring to hike the Kokoda Track in July - they are well prepared and have just completed their last training hike at Sublime Point. As a group they have raised nearly $10,000 towards the cost of their adventure. We hope to have them at the Club to talk about their experiences in the near future.

Our next speakers were Alexandar Bojanic and Sofia Knezevic who were sponsored by the Club to attend the RYPEN Camp last April.

They spoke of their experience, how they were encouraged to operate outside of their comfort zone, work as teams to problem solve. Overall they had a great experience and were grateful for the opportunity to attend. They also comment on the great team who ran the event and will be recommending the experience to their peers.

FEED THE HOMELESS

MARTIN PLACE

We will be back in Martin Place in June distributing meals, drinks and clothing to the homeless of our City. If you are able to assist in any way contact President John Pillay.

Donations of food and good quality clean clothing would also be appreciated.

RYLA is a life-changing program, providing an incredible opportunity to develop yourself as a leader alongside 75 participants. This will be a week of your life that you’ll never forget, and we’d love you to be involved!

When and where is RYLA?

RYLA will be held on Sunday 18 January to Friday 23 January 2026. Grevillea at The Tops conference centre, 51 Bandana Gardens, Stanwell Tops, NSW 2508. You must be able to attend for the entire duration of the program.

RYPEN, The Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment, is for young people aged 14 to 16 years and caters for teenagers who have shown qualities and application in everyday life which deserve further development.

RYPEN uses the common bonds of learning, co-operation, and friendship to design activities which facilitate trust and self-esteem. RYPEN seeks to broaden each participant’s horizons culturally, socially, and academically, providing the inner foundations for a strong future.
