President Elect Ted Mlynarz opened the meeting and reported that for the first time in 45 years Rotary now has Clubs in Vietnam with the Rotary Club of Saigon and Rotary Club of Saigon International both being established. There have been no Rotary Clubs in Vietnam since 1975, when the seven Clubs then operating in the country were shut down and their charters were cancelled by Rotary International.
We were down on numbers at the meeting as our Group of intrepid adventurers continued their dessert trek – they were last sited in the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park.
Incoming Youth Service Director Sonny Hoang advised that he has two students interested in attending the upcoming RYLA Camp in August,
Russell Soejardi gave a motivational presentation on Leadership and Values. One of the many things that a good leader must understand is when to step up, when to step back and when to set down. This is particularly important in organisations such as Rotary which relies on its members to provide leadership as are the many other attributes Russell mentioned. Members took a lot away from this presentation.
