MEETING 6 FEBRUARY 2024

Apologies  - Gary, Shiva, Pranesh and Vinod.

President Tissa Perera reported that Roger Mendis had resigned from the Club with immediate effect due to personal reasons. He will remain as a friend of the club.

He also reported on the following RAWCS Projects:

The Bopitiya School Project in Sri Lanka continues to support 30 kids to attend school. One of the students who completed the HSC has been offered a place at the Colombo University Business School and he will be supporting her during her tenure at the University. She might be the first student from the local school in Bopitiya to attend the Colombo University.

The Pamunugama Women's Empowerment Project - second phase will start next month with thirty households participating. This project’s major sponsor is Precision Paper Coating and the Managing Director Chris hopes to visit the project in a few months.

Colombo University Scholarship Program - Amal Whab will be our Guest Speaker on 26h March and will provide an update on the project.

Treasurer Sam Capra reported that our fund raising income is down this year and we are using our reserves.ur savings. He suggested that we should retain a percentage for the club from any fundraising we do for other charties.. June Young mentioned that we could retain up to 40% under Fair Trading rules,  however 25% was a reasonable about. Members in general agreed that we should retain money in the future and may be have a fund raiser for the club every year other than the circus.

The funding issue to be discussed at the next Club Forum on 27 February 2024 and the Board Meeting immediately after.

The meeting scheduled for Tuesday, 19th March 2024 will be moved to Wednesday 20th March to cater for an event.

Raffle- Sam Capra won the Jackpot

CLUB FORUM - TUESDAY, 27 FEBRUARY 2024

This is a members only night to give members the opportunity to discuss operations of our Club and give direction to the BOARD

CLUB BOARD MEETING - TUESDAY, 27 FEBRUARY 2024

A Board meeting will be held immediately following the Club Forum.

New Member Night - because of the number of members travelling this has now been moved to 30th April 2024.

Let’s face it - attracting members to join a service organization is not an easy task. In fact, oftentimes, we see that even though the majority of people are aware of Rotary, only a few know what Rotarians actually do.

The prospective members that we try and recruit are often our friends, colleagues or family members.

These are people that are easy to recruit because you share a personal relationship with them and can easily explain the work of Rotarians to them.

Invite members of your local community, friends and business contacts to this membership night!

We will have a speaker and  some materials ready to give out at this event that consist of information about your club, activities and Rotary. This way, prospective members have something conclusive to take away and read. Invite all prospective members at the membership night to attend so they can get a feel of what the dynamic of the club is like.

Those who are really interested will attend and you'll have an opportunity to formally invite them to join the club.

IF WE WANT TO GROW THE CLUB, IT IS UP TO EVERY MEMBER TO PROMOTE THE CLUB AND THIS NIGHT!

Community Service Director John Pillay advised that our next Feed the Homeless Night in Martin Place, will be held on 12 February 2024 at 6pm.
