Meeting – 26 February 2019

It was good to see President Jim and Treasurer Gary back on deck after their individual unplanned and planned surgery. Apologies were received from Joe Cauchi (on the sick list) and Geoff Gibbs.
President Jim had a few items to report on:
  • Thank-you to those members who worked on the BBQ at Bardia Barracks.
  • Final names required for the Vocational visit to the Ingham Institute on 12 March.
  • A reminder about registering for the District Conference on 15, 16 and 17 March.
  • A Combined Services Clubs fundraiser for the State Emergency Service proposed by June Young for 29 May.
  • Rotary car window stickers available for $3 each.
Secretary Alvan Freeman has received the plaque to acknowledge the Club’s provision of the materials for, and the construction of, the Braeside Hospital’s Sensory Garden beds.  Jim Leahy and Frans Buskermolen will arrange to mount the plaque on one of the garden beds.
Frans circulated a Commitment Sheet for those members making the trip to Lake Cargelligo for the Drought Relief Event. Ted Mlynarz announced that the Cabramatta members of the Club have donated $2000 towards the project.
The Club has been informed by Rotary International that Satellite Clubs are now formally recognised and covered by the 2016 Manual of Procedure As a consequence the Club had two options.
The Club could either:
  1. Formally register the Satellite Club with Rotary International.  The styling of the name would be the “Rotary Satellite Club of Liverpool West, or
  2. Cease use of the term “Satellite Club”.   The group would then need to operate under the banner of the Rotary Club of Liverpool West so that any activities (meetings / projects) of this group would need to be branded “Rotary Club of Liverpool West”.
After discussion it was resolved by the members to take the latter course of action.

The Meeting also considered a proposal that Districts 9675 (our District) and District 9685 combine to form one District. The new District would take in the areas from Kiama in the south to the Central Coast to the north and to the Blue Mountains to the west. The members resolved that “Discussions on the proposal continue until there is further information available on which to make a final decision.”

When you are bored, just think about a few things that don't make sense ...like;
1. If a poison use by date expires, is it more poisonous or is it no longer poisonous?
2. Which letter is silent in the word "Scent," the S or the C?
3. Do twins ever realize that at least one of them is unplanned?
4. Why is the letter W, in English, called double U? Shouldn't it be called double V?
5. Maybe oxygen is slowly killing you and it just takes 75-100 years to fully work.
6. Every time you clean something, you just make something else dirty.
7. The word "swims" upside-down is still "swims"
8. 100 years ago everyone owned a horse and only the rich had cars. Today everyone has cars and only the rich own horses.
9. If you replace "W" with "T" in "What, Where and When", you get the answer to each of them.
Six great confusions still unresolved
 1. At a movie theatre, which arm rest is yours?
 2. If people evolve from monkeys, why are monkeys still around?
 3. Why is there a 'D' in fridge, but not in refrigerator?
 4.  Who knew what time it was when the first clock was made?
  Vagaries of English Language!
 - Wonder why the word funeral starts with FUN?
 -Why isn't a Fireman called a Water-man?
 - How come Lipstick doesn't do what it says?
 - If money doesn't grow on trees, how come Banks have Branches?
 - If a Vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a Humanitarian eat?
 - How do you get off a non-stop Flight?
 - Why are goods sent by ship called CARGO and those sent by truck SHIPMENT?
 - Why do we put cups in the dishwasher and the dishes in the Cupboard?
-Why is it called 'Rush Hour' when traffic moves at its slowest then?
 - How come Noses run and Feet smell?
 - Why do they call it a TV 'set' when there is only one?
 - What are you vacating when you go on a vacation?

 Who thinks of this stuff.....
