President's Message
Meeting 7 August: Tuesday’s meeting was well attended with apologies from Rinna Ly and Charlie Hili.
President Jim Rudling informed the meeting of the passing of Henry Ngai the owner of ABC Tissues and a friend of Liverpool West, Cambodia Vision and Vietnam Vision.
Other issues raised by President Jim were:
  • Rotary Australia Relief Fund (RARF) has established a fundraising, in conjunction with the National Farmers Federation to provide monetary & other assistance to Australian farmers who have been impacted by the current drought. Treasurer Gary Halliday proposed that the Club donate $5000 towards this appeal. After some discussion by the members this proposal was approved.
  • The Liverpool Chamber of Commerce was holding a lunch on 11 October at which the Premier Gladys Berejiklian will be guest speaker.
  • A Request had been made from Liverpool club to assist them with the BBQ trailer in a fundraiser for a group called “Save our Sons”.  Save Our Sons Duchenne Foundation supports research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in Australia. The disease is a genetic disorder characterized by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness and until relatively recently, boys with DMD usually did not survive much beyond their teen years. Volunteers are required for the BBQ.
  • The Police Officer of the Year function will be held on 4 September, this will be a change of meeting night with no normal Club meeting held on the night.
Treasurer Gary Halliday proudly announced that only two members are yet to pay their membership fees.
Youth Director Sam Capra updated members of issues in his area of responsibility.
  • Dr Hein Tran has organised four tables for the Gala Night and has also provided two items for the auction on the night.
  • A proposal was advanced for a Ladies night at the La Rumbla Restaurant in the near future.
  • Three applications for Rotary Youth Leadership Award have been received.
Guest Speakers Rob Elliott (Narellan Club) and Carla from Camp Quality esCarpade spoke about the rally experience last year and the preparations for this year. Rob expressed some concerns that the problems with a new radiator the crews car,”Kermit”, severely retarded their progress but nonetheless they had a good time. Carla said that Camp Quality remained committed to its mission to give kids impacted by cancer every opportunity to thrive and showed a video of a family’s experience of their child with leukaemia.
Immediate Past President John Pillay presented Rob with a donation.

Rob reciprocated with a Certificate of Appreciation.

Rob also presented a Camp Quality Cap to President Jim Rudling in appreciation of the Club’s and Jim’s personal support for the organisation

Preparations for the Miracle Babies Fund Raising Night are building up with Geoff Gibbs and Bob Groat offering to meet the costs hiring the entertainer for the night and Dr Hein Tran donating an oil painting and some whiskey as prizes for the night. Members a reminded to make every effort to sell theit allocated tickets for the night and continue to seek sponsorships.

Our ranks will be diminished over the next few months with four members heading to Cambodia to support AHHA's Eye, Dental, Medical and Humanitarian Project, others a traveling throughout our wide brown land.

Next weeks meeting will be held in Johnny Fong's Restaurant at Mounties at 6:30 pm and will be a partners and guest night.
