Meeting 10 November 2020

Apologies were received from Geoff Gibbs, Alan Hall and Joe Cauchi.

Our Guest Speaker was Amar Singh from Turbans 4 Australia a group of dedicated volunteers our Club has been supporting. Amar thanked the Club for supporting the purchase of a generator for their Food Truck, funds to support the food hamper program and the provision of hand sanitizer.
He gave details of the efforts of Turbans 4 Australia in supporting both those affected and the Emergency Service Workers during the recent Bushfires – his volunteers travelled from the Queensland Border down to the Victorian Border providing meals and refreshments.
Now with the COVID 19 Crisis they are providing food hampers and meals to foreign students in Western Sydney and Wollongong. This service has now been extended into Victoria and they are working with RMIT and Latrobe University.
The Turbans 4 Australia teams also delivered to Easter Eggs we were unable to take to Narromine to Hospitals around the area on our behalf spreading a little bit of cheer.
Since the group was founded in 2014 their involvement has grown distributing food and services valued at in excess of a quarter of a million dollars.
The group aims to increased awareness and acceptance of diversity within our community and another of their projects in promoting water safety among newer members of our community particularly those from the sub-continent and southeast Asia who have never learned to swim. In Australia, we have over 10,000 beaches plus other waterways such as rivers, lakes and dams.

PP Jim Rudling moved a vote of thanks to Amar and Turbans 4 Australia adding that we hoped the Club appreciates the work they are doing and hopes that we are able to continue working with them into the future.

Reports.

President – Charles Hili reported on the proposed BBQ to be held on Australia Day 2021 for Health and Emergency Worker at Liverpool Hospital, including local Police.
This will be a joint project for Liverpool, Liverpool West and Liverpool Greenway Clubs. An application for a grant from the Australia Day Council has been made on behalf of the Clubs by PDG Barry Anstees. While this clashes with to proposed BBQ in Narromine the Club should have enough Members available to assist.

Community Service Director – Tissa Perera reported on the presentation of our donation to the Liverpool Hospital Palliative Care Volunteers to Provide Comfort Packs and tabled a letter received from the group.

Youth Service Director – Shiva Nandan advised that nominations are flowing in for the Annual School Service Awards, and that he planned to follow up with the schools this week.
