We had apologies from Peter Beadle, Alvan Freeman, Geoff Gibbs, Roger Mendis and Joe Cauchi. President introduced Guest Speaker Liam Ferrier and visiting Rotarian Victoria Hollick.

Liam Ferrier was our Guest Speaker. He is a final year student at Macquarie University where he is studying for a Batchelor of Psychology and Diploma of Languages (majoring in German) and is also undertaking the University’s Global Leadership Program. He has received the Caltex Australia “Young Leaders Award”, Runner up in the National Spirit of ANZAC Awards and a Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awardee.

Liam took part in the 75th Anniversary Kokoda Youth Leadership Challenge in 2017. He was part of a group of 47. 17 to 25 year old’s who undertook this challenge walking 120 kilometres over 10 days under the leadership of Major Charlie Lynn (former Liberal parliamentarian and Vietnam veteran). The group carried their own supplies for the trek as well as gifts of medicines, toys, books etc for local follow the steps of the Australian Soldiers of the 39th and 2/14 Battalions who in a series of battles fought off more than 8,000 battle hardened Japanese troops. The Australians lost 625 lives, 1.600 were wounded and more than 4,000 had to be hospitalised suffering from malaria, dysentery and other tropical maladies. More than 150 Papuans also lost their lives.

 

Reports

President Ted reported on information received from ADG Paula Jesse, including the date for the District Changeover which has been added to the Calendar;

PP John Pillay advised that the container sent to Fiji had finally been delivered to Labasa and that the eRotary Club of Fiji should distribute the goods by the end of April, further that the indicatative shipping costs for the container of medical equipment will be between $6,500 and $7500;

PP Sam Capra reported that he had continued discussions in relation to the Fund Raising Dinner, Members indicated that of the suggested dates it was preferred to hold this on Saturday, 27 August 2022;

Community Service Director Tissa Perera reported that he has been in contact with Rotary Club of Evans Head in relation to the Flood Relief Project and the dates (Subject to Council Approval) will be from Friday 11 November 2022 to Sunday 13 November 2022. Woodburn is a 7.5 hour drive north of Sydney and the initial plan would be to drive up on the Friday, hold a Community BBQ on the Saturday for a minimum of 200 people and head home on the Sunday;

Secretary Jim Rudling advised that Bunnings at Crossroads had donated a number of Gift Cards to be used as raffle prizes at the Change-Over Dinner; and

Change-Over Dinner and 50 year Celebration – it was advised that the cost for Members (and partner or 1 guest)  for a 3 course Dinner with draft beers, house wines and soft drinks would be $50 per person. The cost for other will be $60 per head.

$10 per head $5 to Snooker club for membership and $5 to cover prizes
No raffle, no fine session on the night
We have booked 4 tables and will play doubles with teams drawn from the hat and everyone will play 2 games.
Winners from first round will play off for Championship and losers will play off for 3rd place,
Prizes
1st – Large packet of Skittles;
2nd – Medium packet of Skittles;
3rd – Small packet of Skittles; and
4th – a Bottle of Wine from the Club’s Cellar.
 
The skill will be to make sure you come in 4th

50th Anniversary Celebration Magazine
This is getting close to production and the Club needs advertisers to both cover the cost of production and to raise funds for our Drought Recovery Project.
Advertising Rates will be:
  1. Full page advertisement and website sponsorship until 31 December 2023 - $650
  2. Half page advertisement and website sponsorship until 31 December 2023 - $400
  3. Quarter page advertisement and website sponsorship until 31 December 2023 - $250
  4. Website sponsorship only- $150
 
Members have been asked to contact potential advertisers as soon as possible – Pranesh Ram is able to provide them with assistance in designing the adds

This year District Assembly will be a one-day workshop held on the 14 May at the William Inglis Hotel, 155 Gov Macquarie Drive, Warwick Farm. To register go to the District event calendar.
 
This year we will are planning an innovative program with many topics to support clubs, in particular boards, working towards a productive and exciting year.

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR ANTON BUSKERMOLEN

The funeral service for Anton Buskermolen who died last week will be held on Tuesday, 10 May 2022 at 2:30pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery & Crematorium. Camden Valley Way, Leppington, NSW 2179 Australia.

We have moved to a roster system and every member is on the Roster.
If you are rostered to work and for any reason you are unable to attend it is your responsibility to arrange for someone to replace you and work your shift.
