CORE Community Services – Jose Brosas joined our Meeting on 24 August 2021 and made a presentation on the work and facilities CORE Community Services Provides in our Community.
 
 
Established in 1979 CORE Community Services has continued to support vulnerable migrants and refugees in South West Sydney. Through our hard work and passion, they have built a strong connection to the local multicultural communities and ethnic specific organisations.
With over 180 staff, with diverse multicultural backgrounds, CORE Community Services delivers programs with passion, empathy and professionalism.
A majority of their staff come from similar situations as the clients that access their service which allows them to provide assistance that is both culturally appropriate and aware.
CORE Community Services deliver assistance to the Sydney South West at its
12 Sites: -
1 Pre-school;
2 Food pantry/services;
5 Community Centres;
3 Crisis Refuges; and
1 Home Modifications warehouse
 
 
 
 
In July CORE assisted 162 clients (including families).
Assistance included vouchers for petrol and groceries and bill relief. CORE is helping deliver healthy food packages to those who themselves or their carers are unable to travel.
Need for food relief has increased by 30-40 families per week.
Domestic and Family Violence services. There has been an increase in those looking for help during the lockdowns, especially those needing emergency housing.
Over 500 “stay at home” packs for young people and children who are in lock down and needing assistance with home schooling. This has included youth and young people friendly information around mental health and services available to them. With over 100 now on a waitlist.
 
Our Club made a significant contribution to the purchase of items such as:
  • Arts and craft supplies;
  • Seedlings and pots;
  • Building toys (Lego); and
  • Other goods that they would be beneficial during lockdown.
 
Over 75 home modification and maintenance jobs completed allowing the aged and disabled community to remain living independently and out of facility care.
Providing youth specific programs, including Alcohol and Other Drug counselling and providing a safe residence for youth through our refuges
 
Rotary Club of Liverpool West Scholarships
Our Club will be offering two Scholarships for students completed year 12 at either Narromine High School or Trangie Central School and wish to enrol in specific courses at Charles Sturt University at the Dubbo, Orange or Bathurst Campuses. Full details and applications will be available from Charles Sturt University in 2022. 
 
We are able to two scholarships in 2022 because of the generous sponsorship of Precision Paper Coatings Pty Ltd who will be providing the funds through Rotary Club of Liverpool West Inc.
  1. The scholarships will only be available to students who have completed their year 12 studies at either Narromine High School or Trangie Central School;
  2. The Scholarships will be $3,000 p.a, for 3 years for courses commencing in 2022 (the total value of each of the scholarships is $9,000 over the 3 years); and
  3. Payment of the first year of the scholarship will be as directed by Charles Sturt University and the payments for subsequent years will be dependent on the successful completion of each year.
  4. The Scholarships will be available for study at the following Campuses of Charles Sturt University for the nominated degrees:
    1. Dubbo
      1.   Bachelor of Nursing
    2. Bathurst
      1. Bachelor of Nursing
      2. Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary)
      3. Bachelor of Education (K–12)
    3. Orange
      1. Bachelor of Pharmacy
      2. Bachelor of Physiotherapy
      3. Bachelor of Dental Science
 
It is hoped that on completion of their degrees, graduates will seek work in the Narromine/Trangie Districts.
