We had apologies from President Sam Capra and the Meeting was Chaired by Charles Hili who welcomed Guest Speaker Noor Jarbou, her companion Sue, Sonny Hoang and John Cauchi to the meeting.
Noor Jarbou our Guest Speaker, is the recipient of a Australian Rotary Health Research Scholarship co-funded by our Club.
She gave an update on her Peri-Natal Infant Mental Health Research at the University of Wollongong.
‘The effects of treated and untreated depression during pregnancy on offspring behaviour and brain development ‘
“It is important that depressive symptoms during pregnancy are effectively treated as untreated maternal depression can have adverse consequences to both mother and child.”
Noor’s research which is in its final year currently indicates excerise and diet can counter the effects of anti- depressant medication taken during pregnancy on both the mother and offspring. This has been corroborated by other independent research being conducted at the University.
Members asked questions on the research and congratulated Noor on the progress of her work.
