31 DECEMBER 2021

Our week started off with the sad news that Sue Leahy had passed away after a long battle with Illness. Our deepest sympathy goes out to Jim, Dearne, Warren and his Families.

MEETING 14 December 2021
This was our last Club Meeting for 2021
We had apologies from Bob Groat, Rinna Ly and Charlie Hili – otherwise a good turnout.

President Ted welcomed our Guest Speaker Jose Brosas from CORE Community Services who spoke on the depth of engagement they have with our local Community from helping New Families to the Elderly.

They are a not-for-profit community organisation which has been operating in South West Sydney for almost 40 years. They were previously known as Cabramatta Community Centre, but due to growth and the far-reaching nature of their services, re-branded in 2015 to CORE Community Services to highlight their dedication to all local communities in South West Sydney.

Most recently they have partnered with us to distribute:
  • Packs for new Mothers (50) – these included essential items to help with those early times. Most were distributed through Liverpool Hospital;
  • At Home Packs (144) – these included toys, activity/craft kits, books for young people, pencils, crayons etc; and
  • School Starter Packs (30) – for pre-schoolers header to kindergarten in 2022 which consisted of a lunch box, water bottle and Pencil pack.
We received funding for this project by a Grant from Multicultural NSW. Over all more than 800 people benefited from this effort.
In addition to the items, we purchased and supplied CORE added basic food and grocery items to the packs as well as information on support services available in the district.

We are grateful for the help provided by the staff and volunteers of CORE Community Services in assembling and delivering these much appreciated packs.

We finished the year with Geoff Gibbs taking the Raffle Jackpot and other members winning the plethora of prizes on offer.

Secretary Jim Rudling advised that he had received an approach from Turbans 4 Austral to participate in a multi-group Australia Day Celebration – he will contact him to get further information.
Jim also circulated a draft Roster for the Bunnings Sausage Sizzle for comment. Every member has been included and it will be their responsibility to make arrangement with other members if they for any reason cannot work at their allocated time. The finalised roster which contains contact numbers will be circulated shortly.
