Last Week
We had a reduced meeting with apologies from Sam Capra, Shiva Nandan, Geoff Gibbs, Joe Cauchi - we have Robert Menolotto on Paternity Leave and Peter Beadle on his Nomadic Safari.
President Elect Jim Rudling gave an update on the successful fund raising by Cambodia Vision on Saturday Night 16 June - with funds raised going to purchase new equipment for the teams trip in September 2018.
Ted Mylnarz gave an update on the Satellite Club's Fund Raising on a bleak Sunday (17 June) in Freedom Plaza at Cabramatta.
Jim Rudling sought commitments from members for the Club's Changeover on Saturday 30 June 2018.
Les Still attended the meeting, having just come out of hospital and filled in as Guest Speaker by giving a talk on when (a more youthful version than the Les we know) travelled across the Nullabor, taking many months living on rabbits and other form of wild life before reaching Perth, Thanks Les it was a great talk.
Our guest speaker for our Meeting on 26 June 2018 has entitled his presentation
“How to reduce your chance of your first, next or fatal heart attack ."His name is Alan Heighway. .
Like millions of other Australians, Alan has been affected by coronary heart disease.
Unlike many others….,he has survived .
The reason he is here tonight is to explain how your heart works, what can go wrong, and choices we can make to reduce our chances of coronary heart disease.
As he will explain in the first 30 seconds, he is not a doctor, but as members of other Clubs have said, this is almost an advantage, as he addresses this subject in layman’s terms, and will use simple slides to explain complex medical issues. You will get the message clearly.
Heart disease is the No 1 killer in Australia. Fortunately many of these deaths can be prevented.
Everyone has choices they can make to keep their heart beating for as long as possible.
You will see & hear some of those choices at our meeting.
So, we welcome Alan to take us on a short journey that has the potential to add years to our lives.
The Clubs new website will launch in the first week of July 2018
For many years the Clubs website has been hosted by Daniel Doherty (Merlin FX), Daniel's business has now moved away from the Liverpool area and he is no longer able to continue with the support he has so generously provided since we first launched our site. When Daniel is back in Sydney and available we will have him attend a Club meeting.
We are moving to the ClubRunner Platform which has been specifically designed for Rotary Clubs, is linked to Rotary International and currently used by District 9675
Cambodia Vision Fund Raising Evening – Saturday 16 June 2018

Another successful evening raising funds for the work done by Cambodia Vision in providing medical support for the needy in Cambodia. A number of our members were in attendance on the night and the Club made a donation presented by President John Pillay. President Elect Jim Rudling will leave on 1 July 2018 to provide logistical support to the group in Cambodia.
Satellite Club / AHHA Fund Raiser – Sunday 17 June 2018, Freedom Plaza Cabramatta
On Sunday 17 June 2018 the Rotary Club of Liverpool West Satellite Club and Australian Health Humanitarian Aid (AHHA) conducted one of its regular fundraising events at Freedom Plaza, Cabramatta. Several volunteers from Rotary and AHHA braved the chilly weather to raise funds to support AHHA's annual field trip to Cambodia and Vietnam where free medical, dental and humanitarian services are provided to the poor and underprivileged. Water filters are also distributed to provide clean water for human consumption. Although the crowds in Cabramatta were below the norm, a successful fundraising effort was achieved.

Riddle for Rotarians
A pet shop owner had a parrot with a sign on its cage that said "Parrot repeats everything it hears." A young man bought the parrot and for two weeks he spoke to it and it didn't say a word. He returned the parrot but the shopkeeper said he never lied about the parrot. How can this be?
