We had a fun filled meeting with apologies from Sam Capra, John Pillay, Jim Rudling, Frans Buskermolen and Geoff Gibbs we welcomed John Cauchi and Keith de Jong as visitors. John was there to make sure Joe went straight home, Keith is an interested potential member. We also welcomed PP Les Still.
Youth Service Director Tissa Perera reported that 30 local schools are participating in out School Service Awards Program (only three did not come back to him). Tissa will be attending four presentation ceremonies and President Sam one.
Tissa also reported that the awards we are sponsoring at Cecil Hills High School had been organised and funded for presentation next year. Thanks to help from Peter Beadle (it was really Margaret).
Ted Mlynarz reported that arrangements are well in hand to bring the two Dental Students from Vietnam for further studies. The cost of this is being partly covered by the Club
Secretary and Treasurer reported on the proposed changes to our Constitution and Bylaws directed by Rotary International which are on hold pending a District review. One interesting change is the way the Club location will be defined. Instead of specifying geographic boundaries it is likely to be “Greater Liverpool and surrounding areas”.
Meeting 26 November:
Again an enjoyable with an excellent guest speaker Sandra Bartlett from Stairways 2 Dreams. Unfortunately, our other speaker from Food Bank was a cancellation. Mr Jackpots Tissa walked away with our Member Raffle Jackpot, again.
Narromine – 2019
Plans are coming together for our great peregrination to Narromine via Bathurst, Dubbo and Trangie to bring good cheer and support to this drought ravaged area of NSW.
Together with the Rotary Club of Narromine on how best to work in the area and have decided on the options detailed below..
In addition to the funds budgeted by the Club we have received a generous donation from AHHA (Australian Health and Humanitarian Aid) and have raised money from bucket collections at Frans Buskermolen’s 80th Bash, Mounties Melbourne Cup Function and at Dr Bob Groat’s Fairfield Veterinary Hospital. We have also received a few of individual donations The Club has also applied for a grant from Mounties to support us with this project
Club members will visit the Narromine District on Thursday 12th, Friday 13th, and Saturday 14th of December – returning on 15th December.
Our current plan is to:
Distribute books to the Primary and Pre Schools in both Trangie and Narromine;
Distribute small Christmas to Children at the schools;
Make donations to the “Hardship Funds” maintained by the 6 Schools in the District;
Provide $50 vouchers that will be redeemable at businesses in the District, these will be distributed by the local CWA and St Vincent de Paul and administered by Rotary Club of Narromine.
Host a Free BBQ/ Sausage Sizzle on Friday Evening 13th December in Tom Perry Park, on the corner of the main street (where the Glenn McGrath statue is located).
“Bust the Dust Rain Dance” – this event will be held at St. John’s Catholic School in Trangie at 1 pm.. Around 1000 children and adults including Channels 7 & 9 are expected. We are providing the sausages and bread.
On Saturday 14th December travel to “Pine Grove” (37 km out of Narromine) where RC of Narromine is catering with their Food Van at a Clearance Sale. This will give members a good look at the dry farms and the opportunity to speak with local farmers.
There is also the possibility of a visit to “Waterloo” another property in the area
Saturday evening is the local Carols by Candlelight in the Grounds of the Uniting Church and a Christmas Dinner will be arranged for those going.
In addition, a group of around 13 will be coming with us, they are from the local Vietnamese Community and they have independently raised a significant amount and will be distributing Christmas Hampers and other support while they are with us. This bring the total of our group to around 25. Narromine will never be the same!
