Changeover 30 June: Our Annual Changeover Dinner was attended by 75 people including DGE Rotary District 9675 Warwick Richardson and President of Mounties Community Club Kevin Ingram.
Outgoing President John Pillay reported on what the Club had achieved during his term (2017/8) and handed over donations to Liverpool Hospital Wig Library (accepted by Fiona Gould), Liverpool City Meals on Wheels (accepted by Kerrie Oxlade), Liverpool District Men’s Shed (accepted by Bob Gosling), Australian Health and Humanitarian Aid (accepted by Dr William Trinh), Australian Aid for Cambodia (accepted by Cynthia Villar ).
John presented two Paul Harris Fellow Awards to:-
Barbara Houghton in recognition of the outstanding work she has done for the Community including organising the “Little Sweethearts Ball” and Cord Blood Bank Appeal. Barbara is a past President of the Inner Wheel Club of Liverpool Combined and the Incoming President for 2018/9.
Sam Capra in recognition of the work he does in the Community, Sam is a Past President of our Club, he has filled many roles over many years, is President Elect for 2019/2020 and the instigator and organiser of the Miracle Babies Fund Raiser the Club will hold in September.
Dr. Le Duc Hong, President of the Liverpool West Satellite Club asked Ted Mlynarz to provide the update on the work the Satellite Club and its Members had done over the years and he then presented two Paul Harris Fellows on behalf of the Satellite Club to:
Trang Do in recognition of her work in fund raising to support many Charities over the last 10 years. As part of the Quan Nho Ban Ngheo (NBN Group) she provides her home for the monthly fund raising lunch organised by NBN and helps prepare and serve the delicious meals provided.
Stephanie Wong in recognition of her work for Australian Health and Humanitarian Aid, she not only organises publicity and the newsletter for them but has travelled overseas to work with the group on numerous occaisions.
President Jim Rudling after accepting the Collar of Office from John Pillay then introduced his Board for 2018/9 – Secretary: Alvan Freeman, Treasurer: Gary Halliday, Community and Vocational Service: Shiva Nandan, International Service: Dr. Rinna Ly and New Generations and President Elect: Sam Capra.
Jim then presented a Paul Harris Fellow to John Pillay in recognition of his past Service to our Club as outgoing President, his work on the Fiji Water Project which is still ongoing and his other work in our Community.
PP Ted Mlynarz was made a Gold Companion of Australian Rotary Health in recognition of the work he has done over many years with Vietnam Vision, now Australian Health and Humanitarian Aid, Earthquake survivors in Nepal and many others.
Russell Soejadi conducted the successful raffle with a plethora of Prizes the donation of which by our many supporters is greatly appreciated and Peter Houghton (Jnr) was the successful bidder for the signed Bulldogs Jersey donated by Alan Hall.
It was a night enjoyed by all and thanks go to the staff of Mounties Community Club for their efforts on the night.
Now it is all done and dusted President Jim jets off to Cambodia for 4 weeks leaving Past President John back in charge
Meeting 26 June: It was good to see Geoff Gibbs at Tuesday’s Dinner Meeting back from an extended holiday in North Queensland. Geoff informed the meeting about his attendance at the Rotary Club if Townsville Daybreak where he met a bunch of great people and discovered the novelty of an early morning start. Geoff also met up with friends in Cairns, Atherton Tableland and Port Douglas.
The Guest Speaker was Alan Heighway who, although not a doctor, gave an entertaining and informative talk about the heart, health risk factors and heart attack prevention. Alex exhorted members to ensure they had a regular health check. Alan has survived 3 heart attacks.
