DISTRICT 9675

NEWSLETTER – 6 SEPTEMBER 2016

Dear Rotarians & Friends,

We did not have a meeting last week as it had been transferred to Cabramatta Rotary’s Changeover on 29th August. We had 12 representatives in attendance to see President David Butterfield re-inaugurated. It was a great night well catered by the Austrian German Club.

We also welcomed Ted, Jim and Joe back from there trip to Cambodia with VVP and in Joe’s case also to Vietnam with Dr Phuoc Vo.

John Pillay will go to Fiji soon to finalise our Clean Water Projects at Ba and Sigatoka – if you are interested in going to Fiji to help John please contact him as soon as possible so he can finalise the dates.

A number of members also represented the Club at the Annual Ngoc Tram Scholarship function on 2 September, Jim Nguyen will be attending our club meeting on 11 October as guest speaker and hopefully will have the latest beneficiary of this scholarship (to study law at University of NSW) with him.

I have the tickets for our members to attend the 2016 Police Officer of the year on the 27th September 2016, we have 8 people who have purchased tickets at this stage, tickets are $70 per person.

Members Raffle Jackpot will be $30.00 on 6 September 2016.

Lastly, I would like to thank you all for your kindness and participation.

All the best, Rinna

Pride of Workmanship Night – 25 October 2016

Our Annual Pride of Workmanship Night will be held on 25th October.

Each year the club calls for nominations from the community of people who give that little extra in the performance of their jobs, it may be that little bit of extra help to customers, it might be for pride in their jobs.

Bob Groat distributed nomination forms at last week’s meeting, these will close on 10th October 2016. Planning is well advanced for this event which will be held on Tuesday 27 September 2016 at Liverpool Catholic Club. As we normally do our regular meeting will be transferred to this night, so we expect a big turn-out.

Mildred, the church gossip and self-appointed monitor of the church’s morals, kept sticking her nose into other people’s business.

Several members did not approve of her activities, but feared her enough to maintain their silence.

She made a mistake, however, when she accused Frank, a new member, of being an alcoholic after she saw his old pickup parked in front of the town’s only bar one afternoon.

She emphatically told Frank (and several others) that everyone seeing it there would know what he was doing!

Frank, a man of few words, stared at her for a moment and just turned and walked away.

He didn’t explain, defend, or deny.

He said nothing.

Later that evening, Frank quietly parked his pickup in front of Mildred’s house…. walked home…. and left it there all night.
