Dear Fellow Rotarians & Friends,
Tuesday, 30 May 2017 was a great night. We welcomed Rob Elliot as our special Guest Speaker who talked about Camp Quality project in Australia, Kevin Walker as our long standing member in the club since 1972 who is leaving for the Port Macquarie and this is his last day with us, and Shiva as our local visitor. Apologies from Jock & Joe Cimino, Sam Capra, Peter Beadle, Geoff Gibbs, Alvan Freeman Frans Buskermolen and Bob Groat.
Tonight, Rob Elliot was our Guest Speaker (Rotary Club of Camden) spoke about Camp Quality and the Annual Bash.
Camp Quality’s purpose is to create a better life for every child living with cancer in Australia.
Camp Quality provides for children (0-13 years) living with cancer and their families help create a better life by building optimism and resilience throughout each stage of their cancer journey. Our programs are Australia-wide: we have an office in every state and territory.
Right from diagnosis, throughout treatment and in remission or bereavement, our programs support the whole family; at hospital, at home, back at school and away from it all.
They support the mums, dads and siblings of kids with cancer too; our research shows that cancer has a huge impact on them and they often feel neglected by support that focuses solely on the child with cancer. This makes our inclusion of these family members across our programs unique, essential and urgent – so they can quickly form a solid support network around their brother / sister or son / daughter with cancer.
They have also started to provide programs that support children under 13 who have a parent living with cancer. This is in response to the growing demand for this type of support from parents, along with education and health sector professionals. Over the next couple of years we will be rolling out a number of programs to help meet the needs of these kids. We have started off with the Education Program and we will be launching the Kids App in July 2015. Other program will become available once we are certain that we are meeting the needs of this group in the most effective and equitable manner across Australia.
Operating since 1983, our programs create a supportive, resilient and optimistic community for families living with cancer.
Rob also advised that he is going to organise fundraising night on Friday, 25 August 2017 and $80/person. He would like to invite our members and friends to attend as many as we can to support the great causes. He will advise more details in the future.

After his interesting speech, our club handed him a cheque payable to Camp Quality.
Kevin Walker was also our guest, prior to He and Judy moving to Port Macquarie. He has been involved with our Club for 45 years, as a member and then an Honorary Member since 1972. During this time he has seen the club’ continued support of local and international projects, our continuing club spirit. When he first joined the Club the senior members of what was a very new Club guided him to be a good Rotarian and the mentoring he received and the friendships he has made. We wish Kevin and Judy well in their new home.
I showed 2 short video clips regarding the motivational teamwork and the time is now to act for your dream to be helping others. I also pointed out the important message to some new members that “why join rotary?”.
I would like thank all those members whom came to assist at our Circus for the long 3 days over the last weekend. We received plaques of appreciation from Australian Health and Humanitarian Aid and Variety (the Childrens Charity). I advised that the meeting that Australian Aid 4 Cambodia received the Pink Umbrella Award of $1000 during the RAWCS conference at Belmont.
Secretary: Ted advised that all members of the issues raised at the last Board meeting. He requested that members think of possible ways to increase our fund raising
Treasurer: Gary advised that the Annual Circus has been ran smoothly (see later in this newsletter). He also advised that the fees for 2017/8 will be $225.
President Elect: John Pillay thanked to Gary whom worked hard during the Circus and he also reminded Lawrence Hay that as a next President Elect one of his responsibilities is to represent the Club on the Police Officer of the Year Committee and that every week he needs to be at the LCC 15 mins before the meeting commences to set up the club banner etc. before the start of the meeting.
Under the new catering arrangements, I request that you fill in the meal request form as soon as you arrive, the form will be on the tables when you first arrive. Remember that the meeting will start promptly at 6:30 pm

15th Annual Circus Extravaganza.
This event was again held in the Grounds of Liverpool Catholic Club over three days with 9 performances.
The weather was kind to us this year, we only had rain on the Saturday morning. In all, we had in excess of 10,000 people attend the performances.
Again this year we engaged Stardust Circus, they put on a great show which varied from session to session as younger performers went through their paces. The show was first class and enjoyed by all with many glowing compliments received from people as they left. The professionalism of all the Stardust staff was evident to all and ensured that everything went like clockwork.
The special effort from Club Members who were able to assist at the Circus and the many volunteers from Drug Arm contributed to the success of the event.
The event can only be held each year with the generous support of the business community, some who have supported us for many years.
Cambodia Vision – Fund Raising Dinner Saturday, 17th June 2017
The dinner will be held at the Crystal Palace Function Centre, 1st Floor, 219 Canley Vale Road, Canley Heights at 6:30 pm. The cost is $60 per head for an 8 Course meal and 2 jugs of soft drink per table. Keep this date free as the Club normally takes a table on the night. Club Changeover Dinner: this dinner will be held on Saturday, 1 July 2017 in the Liverpool Catholic Club Function Centre 6:30 for 7:00 pm the cost will be $65 per head for a 3 course meal, house wine and draft beers plus soft drinks.
RAWCS Eastern Region Working Bees at 6 Colyton Road, Minchinbury
RAWCS are vacating the Minchinbury Warehouse and are asking for volunteers to work from 9 am to 1 pm on the Saturday – 12 August 2017; Saturday – 9th September 2017; and Saturday – 23 September 2017. If you can help please advise Keith Roffey firstname.lastname@example.org the week before. Some manual work will be involved, volunteers are asked to wear suitable clothing, covered footwear and to bring work/garden gloves. The work will be dusty so expect clothing to be soiled. Morning tea and a light lunch will be provided.
