Dear Fellow Rotarians & Friends,
Tuesday, 23 May 2017 was a great club Forum night. We welcomed our regular visitors, Shiva and Karla. Apologies from Joe Cimino, Lawrence Hay, Frans Buskermolen and Bob Groat.
Tonight, every member advised that most of our members are happy to come to the club meeting every week to socialise with fellow members and friends but comment on the lack of guest speakers and structure of the meeting as well as late arrivals. Some of these and other matters are listed below:-
- Russell Soedjardi has been appointed as an Attendance Officer and will start by filling in for Robert Menolotto when he is away.
- Our meeting should be conducted professionally every week, with all members turning up on time – 6:00 for 6:30pm.
- Respect each other while they have something to say, do not talk when they are speaking and act positively at all the time.
- The meeting should move forward quickly.
- A big concern is the lack of guest speakers. If you know of any worthwhile speakers please advise Sam Capra.
- From now on our members suggested that all directors must report of their taken projects every week rather than say “no report”.
- New BBQ Roster from July 2017.
- It was agreed that four people will be rostered each Saturday;
- One of who will be responsible for the custody of takings (and paper work) until they can be handed to Treasurer;
- The responsible member must withhold the Cash Float from the takings, this is to be left with Les Still on the day;
- Another member who is rostered on will be responsible for bringing the ice (usually 3 bags)
- Members will need to be aware who they are working with and talk amongst themselves to organise the above.
- When you have a BBQ duty on Saturday please remember that so are there to operate the BBQ. Try to avoid becoming involved in long conversation with friends and associates, leaving others to do the work. If you wish to shop at the markets please do this during quite times.
- We need a volunteer to swap with Frans Buskermolen on 24 June 2017 and an extra for 17 June 2017 when both Jim Rudling and Gary Halliday are rostered on.
- We need every member to contribute their skills, opinions and suggestions for shaping the club for the future.
We have invited Ken Walker to visit our club for a farewell prior to his re-location to Port Macquarie.
President Elect John Pillay will be overseas from 16- 29 of July 2017 and I am will be conducting the meetings during this time.
At the Board meeting following the meeting a number of fund raising possibilities were discussed and Sam Capra will be looking to form a Committee to following up on some of these which include bus trips away (Fruit picking) and a Ball. So if Sam taps you on the shoulder be ready to help!!!
A committee was also formed to consider nominations for Paul Harris Fellowship Awards. If you know of any member of the Community or Club deserving of this award please forward nominations in writing to Secretary Ted Mlynarz by 15th June 2017. The Committee will then consider them and if deemed appropriate award PHF’s at the Club Change Over Dinner on 1st July 2017. Remember we have a limited number (approximately 2 per year) which accrue from the Club’s donation to the Rotary Foundation any other is excess of these cost the Club US $1,000 each.

The Markets are in Childs Park, Central Avenue, Chipping Norton and operate from 7:00 am to 12:30 pm each Saturday.
If you are unable to attend for any reason please arrange a swap with someone else on the roster!!

Applications for the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) 2018 program close on 31 May 2017.
With funding from the Australian Government, there will be up to 600 places available for students entering Year 12 in 2018. So there’s never been a better time to apply for the program – the chances of selection have increased significantly.
Attending NYSF is a unique opportunity for young Australian science students to participate in Australia’s leading science and technology outreach activity during their summer break. The participants experience 12 days of science and technology related activities, designed to encourage them to continue to study in these fields, and move on to careers that are so important in underpinning the Australian economy. Cambodia Vision – Fund Raising Dinner Saturday, 17th June 2017
The dinner will be held at the Crystal Palace Function Centre, 1st Floor, 219 Canley Vale Road, Canley Heights at 6:30 pm. The cost is $60 per head for an 8 Course meal and 2 jugs of soft drink per table. Keep this date free as the Club normally takes a table on the night. Club Changeover Dinner: this dinner will be held on Saturday, 1 July 2017 in the Liverpool Catholic Club Function Centre 6:30 for 7:00 pm the cost will be $65 per head for a 3 course meal, house wine and draft beers plus soft drinks.
RAWCS Eastern Region Working Bees at 6 Colyton Road, Minchinbury
RAWCS are vacating the Minchinbury Warehouse and are asking for volunteers to work from 9 am to 1 pm on the Saturday – 12 August 2017; Saturday – 9th September 2017; and Saturday – 23 September 2017. If you can help please advise Keith Roffey firstname.lastname@example.org the week before. Some manual work will be involved, volunteers are asked to wear suitable clothing, covered footwear and to bring work/garden gloves. The work will be dusty so expect clothing to be soiled. Morning tea and a light lunch will be provided.
