INSPIRATIONAL YOUTH AWARDS
Helping Youth to Achieve
Many young people have the talent to make the world a better place, but not all have the opportunity.
In 2017-18 we ask the clubs to nominate an individual from their area, or young people they become aware of who exhibit the spark to make a difference but are held back by their circumstances. Some youth do not have the opportunity to shine because they do not have the privileges that others have so we ask Clubs to identify those individuals and forward them to myself as the District Governors Partner.
The criteria for the awards are:
- Age categories; 14 – 16 years & 17 – 19 years
- Applicants from; Community Groups, Youth Groups & all Educational Organisations
- Their Socio- economic situation
- Contribution to communities
- Their ability to “make the world a better place”
- Commitment and enthusiasm to a cause
Nominee applications will open 1st September 2017 and close 16th March 2018
(Download available on District Website: www.rotarydistrict9675.org)
Let’s make a difference in 2017-18 and provide young people with an opportunity to make the world a better place.

Subject: FW: Rotary Invitation, Film screening-Hope Road
As you might remember, for some years I have been involved in a project to build a school in South Sudan. This is the Hope Road project. This project was what first brought me to Rotary and where we first talked.
The project was initiated by my friend Zacharia Machiek, a South Sudanese man, one of the “lost boys”. The project is auspiced by Rotary Sydney’s International Service Committee. Rotary figures in many places in the film.
Given the violence in South Sudan and obstacles that Zacharia has had to overcome, this has been an extraordinary and inspirational journey. Zacharia walked for 40 days from northern New South Wales to Sydney to help raise funds for the school.
The progress of the project has been filmed by acclaimed documentary maker Tom Zubrycki, who is also a member of the committee developing the project. His film “Hope Road” has recently been shown at both the Sydney and Melbourne Film Festivals, to much acclaim.
A preview trailer is here:
The film will be shown at 6.30 PM on 6 September at the Palace Theatre, Norton Street, Leichhardt. We need at least 75 people to book for the screening to go ahead. I have bought the first 5 tickets. Profits for the screening will go towards the project.
Would you mind please letting your club know about this. It would be good if those interested could please book a ticket soon, to ensure the screening can go ahead and then come along to see this inspiring story.

Subject: After the City2surf
I would like to thank you and the Rotary Club of Liverpool West for your wonderful support. With your generosity and that of numerous other donors I managed to raise $2,454 towards MS Research Australia.
The day of the C2S was gloriously sunny and warm – almost perfect weather. There seemed to be more people than previous years, if that is possible. As usual, the atmosphere was amazing, filled with excitement, fun and friendliness. The entertainment and support along the route was great.
My time was slower (2hrs 25mins) but I did stop along the way to take photos. I’m sure the ‘hills’ were steeper and more numerous this year – well, that is how it felt ( nothing to do with advancing age). I reached the finish line smiling – with relief. I must admit I was quite sore for at least three days after the event, but it was certainly worth it.
With appreciation and affection,
