DISTRICT 9675

NEWSLETTER – 17 OCTOBER 2017

OUR NEXT MEETING IS ON TUESDAY, 17th OCTOBER 2017

AT LIVERPOOL CATHOLIC CLUB – 6 FOR 6:30 PM.

OUR GUEST SPEAKER WILL BE PDG STEPHEN HUMPHREYS WHO WILL SPEAK ON AUSTRALIAN ROTARY HEALTH.

A very sociable evening was enjoyed by members at last Tuesdays meeting.

The Guest Speakers (James Wiltshire, Kai Drescher and Rose Ta) were from Aveo Retirement Communities. James spoke about the organisation and the villages that they operate. There are currently 91 locations across Australia with construction of new complexes being done on a continuous basis. One such development will contain 2000 units. There is a company mission to build 500 units per year such is the demand for independent living and aged care placements.

James expressed some pride in the differentiation within the industry that Aveo has made to its way of doing business and the range of facilities that are provided to residents. Particular attention is made to the processes of moving in, living in and moving out. James was open to providing a range of questions (particularly about costs) that a person should ask if they are looking at this form of retirement living.

Kai went into more detail about the issues raised by James. In particular, the contractual terms.

Aveo seeks to provide residents with financial clarity about buying in, maintenance costs and exit fees.

Significant aspects of the “Aveo Way” are :

  • A six month money back guarantee if the resident changes their mind.
  • A deferred Management fee capped at 35% after three years.
  • No refurbishment costs, and
  • No sales commission on the sale of the unit.

The meeting approved the purchase of 4 iPads for Cecil Hills High School Special Needs Unit these will be delivered in the coming days.

Each nominee will receive an engraved plaque, dinner for them and a partner. If you nominate someone for this award you must be in a position to attend the function on the night when the award is presented. This award can be a great way to show appreciation to an employee or co-worker.

INSPIRATIONAL YOUTH AWARDS

Helping Youth to Achieve

Many young people have the talent to make the world a better place, but not all have the opportunity.

In 2017-18 we ask the clubs to nominate an individual from their area, or young people they become aware of who exhibit the spark to make a difference but are held back by their circumstances. Some youth do not have the opportunity to shine because they do not have the privileges that others have so we ask Clubs to identify those individuals.

The criteria for the awards are:

  • Age categories; 14 – 16 years & 17 – 19 years
  • Applicants from; Community Groups, Youth Groups & all Educational Organisations
  • Their Socio- economic situation
  • Contribution to communities
  • Their ability to “make the world a better place”
  • Commitment and enthusiasm to a cause

HARD WORKING IRISHMAN

Paddy was a youthful and hardworking Irishman at a Coastal village in Ireland.

Daily he would pole a heavy old punt out to sea then work a heavy iron grapple to bring up the sand oysters which he sold to the local ice works.

He was a man of regular habits he always arrived home each day at a certain time.

Sadly, Paddy did not realize the heavy grappling was taking a toll on a faulty heart.

One day he failed to come home so his wife contacted the Police to investigate him being missing.

They rowed out and found Paddy dead in the punt beside him a huge grapple full of oysters he’d tried to hoist aboard.

Headlines next day in the ‘Irish Times Newspaper’ Said…………………………………..
